"An American point of view"

Ok, I will give an American point of view.
We LOVE our Brits (my fiancee is an English woman) but we like our Republic more than we like your Monarchy.

    • Sam Marner I like Ireland's Republic more than I like your Republic more than I like our Monarchy.

    • Darren Storey Ah maybe but you haven't experienced a Monarchy; much like we've never experienced a Republic so hard to judge.
I realist knows there are pros and cons for both. If you lot hadn't thrown a paddy and kicked us out you'd be a monarchy lol. The UK were just too greedy in the world; took on too much etc etc

    • Tommy Tobin I guess the bottom line is this: If that works for the citizens of the UK,then its fine but from what I understand, its not working.

    • Sam Marner Or we could have just given the Americas adequate representation in the house of parliament. And hey who knows maybe a greater Great Britain (eg Britain and the 13 colonies) would have abolished the monarchy...

    • Darren Storey Nah, it's the Tories that aren't working. Ol'Davey boy making decisions and then blaming everything on Labour to justify it.
      Sunday at 19:10 ·
    • Tommy Tobin From what I've heard, there was a mass exodus away from the Labour party.

    • Darren Storey Mass exodus from most parties here mate. We've got more minor parties springing up all over the place these days. We've gone from the main 3 to probably the collective 20

    • Danny Ralph labour are incompetant. they always without fail run up massive debts and the following gov become very unpopular as they are left to clean up the mess.

    • Joel Zumokuta Hall Why do my American friends always bitch about the President and ask me about the Queen and Buckingham Palace then? I'm sure this is not the point of view of many in the US.

    • Darren Storey America has over 3 billion people in it. How many have you spoken to Joel?
      Sunday at 19:30 ·  · 1
    • Joel Zumokuta Hall ‎3 billion? That's twice as many as China. And I think you'll find speaking to lots of different people from different parts is akin to opinion polls we trot out, showing how many people are for and against issues. A small selection of a population is a fairly good way of getting a balanced picture.

    • Darren Storey Oops, sry, a slight numerical error there. I means to say 300million. Dam that decimal point! lol
It depends where you take this small selection from. Something tell me that a group of people from The Derbyshire dales would think a hell of a lot different to inner city Londoners.

    • Joel Zumokuta Hall All over really. New York, California, Washington, Nevada, Kentucky, Arizona, Indiana... Mix of rural and city folks, students, doctors, prisoners, athletes. Fine friends they are too :-)

    • Ahmed Galal Different titles, same crap!
    • Jock Campbell
Many and even probably most people are under the impression that the American nationalists during the American war for independence were anti monarchy. This is just simply not the case. For the most part they were quite loyal to the crown and saw themselves as at odds with parliament not the King. Even after the war Congress asked George Washington to assume the throne of the United States. Today if you ask an Amrican who you mean if you say " The Queen " the will invariably respond the "Queen of England" ( You and I both know her Relms extend beyond England but that is how her monarchy is perceived.)
